Purple Haze and Back Alleyways

Today was such a busy day! After walking the dog and working out I met my friends downtown for some lunch. When I got home I made a super cute card for my friend's birthday. Tomorrow night we are going to see "Magic Mike" to celebrate. SUPER excited! I mean, what girl would't be excited to see that movie!?

Anyway, while I was running some errands I was able to grab a few outfit shots downtown. This alleyway is the side of two buildings, one of them SLO Brew. It hosts concerts; sometimes really famous acts come to town. My freshman year I saw Never Shout Never there. They've also hosted Snoop Dog, Afroman, Hellogoodbye and a lot of others! It's nice to have a cool music venue in town.

Fun facts: These sunglasses were my mom's in the 80's. A while back when were moving she found them in one of her old boxes and gave them to me. They go with almost every outfit. A perfect Summer accessory!
The bracelet I am wearing was my great grandmothers. She got it in Arizona and passed it down to her daughter. My grandma didn't have any girls so she gave it to me. It's funny how something so old and unique is still in style.

What I'm Wearing: Tortoise shell vintage Ray Bans, thrifted purse, black cut out top from TJ Maxx, denim shorts from Old Navy, brown thrifted belt, brown sandals from Khols, Aztec ring from Forever 21, vintage Aztec bracelet

Have a nice weekend!

Dog + Deck

I don't have a whole lot to say about my post today. Basically I got dressed up for nothing. Anyway, this is a totally casual outfit that I like to wear on leisure days. Today all I did was walk my lovely (but annoying) dog (as seen in the pictures) named Rolly. We named him that because he was the fattest pup in the litter-just like Rolly in 101 Dalmatians. "But mother, I'm hungry!" His legal name however is Sir Nigel Rolfschild of Joan. (We used to live on a street named Joan). I know this story was a tad off topic but I think learning the origin of pet names is interesting. Continuing on with what I did today,I visited my grandma, took a practice SAT test-exciting, I know- and went to the orthodontist. Hopefully I will have these braces off by my 18th birthday! Now I am off to meet my two best friends.

What I'm Wearing: Black and gold Forever 21 sunglasses, dusty pink Urban Outfitter top, white Forever 21 shirt with black triangle pattern, thrifted high waisted Levi denim shorts, black high top Chuck Taylor All Star Converse
Happy Tuesday!

Reading List

This summer I plan to read as much as I can (while still balancing a social life)
So here's what I'm dying to read:
1. "Perks of Being a Wallflower" By Stephen Chbosky- Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie is navigating through the strange worlds of love, drugs, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", and dealing with the loss of a good friend and his favorite aunt.
2. "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" (currently reading "The Girl Who Played With Fire") By Stieg Larsson-In the concluding volume of Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy, Lisbeth Salander lies in critical condition in a Swedish hospital, a bullet in her head.
But she's fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she'll stand trial for three murders. With the help of Mikael Blomkvist, she'll need to identify those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she'll seek revenge—against the man who tried to killer her and against the corrupt government institutions that nearly destroyed her life.
3. "The Host" By Stephenie Meyer-Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that take over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves-Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.
4. "Water for Elephants" By Sara Gruen- As a young man, Jacob Jankowski was tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. It was the early part of the great Depression, and for Jacob, now ninety, the circus world he remembers was both his salvation and a living hell. A veterinary student just shy of a degree, he was put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It was there that he met Marlena, the beautiful equestrian star married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. And he met Rosie, an untrainable elephant who was the great gray hope for this third-rate traveling show. The bond that grew among this unlikely trio was one of love and trust, and, ultimately, it was their only hope for survival.
5. "On the Road" By Jack Kerouac- On the Road chronicles Jack Kerouac's years traveling the North American continent with his friend Neal Cassady, "a sideburned hero of the snowy West." As "Sal Paradise" and "Dean Moriarty," the two roam the country in a quest for self-knowledge and experience. Kerouac's love of America, his compassion for humanity, and his sense of language as jazz combine to make On the Road an inspirational work of lasting importance.
